I am supporting an incredibly well backed biotech company specializing in leveraging generative AI and quantum physics algorithms for rapid and innovative drug discovery.
They are currently on the hunt for a Senior Manager to join and lead the Physics Applications Team. This role can be based in either London or Paris.
This team plays a pivotal role in advancing drug discovery programs through the integration and optimization of physics-based computational methods. In this role, you’ll ensure these methods significantly contribute to hit discovery and lead optimization, accelerating the development of novel drug candidates.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a strong track record in team management and deep technical expertise in Statistical Mechanics and Computational Chemistry.
Your Profile:
* Advanced Degree: PhD in Statistical Mechanics, Computational Chemistry, Biophysics, or a closely related field.
* Industry Experience: At least 7 years of experience in computational drug discovery, with 3+ years leading scientific teams.
* Computational Expertise: Deep understanding of physics-based methods such as Molecular Dynamics, Free Energy Calculations (e.g., FEP), and Enhanced Sampling Techniques. Experience with solvation free energy approaches using methods like density functional theory (DFT), PBSA, or GBSA is highly desirable.
* Team Leadership: Proven track record in mentoring, and developing high-performing scientists in a collaborative environment.
* Software Proficiency: Familiarity with industry-standard software for computational drug discovery, including tools like Schrödinger and OpenEye, as well as open-source packages such as OpenMM, AMBER, GROMACS, and NAMD. Experience with chemoinformatics libraries like RDKit and OpenBabel is a plus.
Your Responsibilities:
* Team Leadership: Oversee, mentor, and support a team of scientists focused on applying physics-based computational methods to drug discovery.
* Strategic Development: Develop and implement strategies to integrate advanced computational models, including our proprietary solvation free energy algorithm, into the discovery pipeline.
* Technical Guidance: Provide subject matter expertise in Statistical Mechanics, Molecular Dynamics, Free Energy Calculations, and Computational Chemistry.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with AI researchers, medicinal chemists, and computational scientists to align computational methods with key discovery objectives.
* Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Identify and adopt new computational techniques to enhance hit discovery and lead optimization efforts.
* Operational Excellence: Ensure timely delivery of high-quality scientific results, balancing innovative research with practical, results-driven outcomes.
* Team Development: Cultivate a supportive, collaborative team environment that promotes growth, learning, and high performance.
* Stakeholder Communication: Present complex scientific findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
