Band 7 Nurse Specialist/AHP Hepatology (Hospital and Community based)
The post holder is an experienced nurse or AHP who, acting within their professional boundaries, participates in the treatment and management of liver disease and viral hepatitis.
You will demonstrate a robust, contemporary knowledge of the management of liver disease/viral hepatitis and will have an understanding and experience of conducting research.
Based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital the post holder will (having demonstrated adequate competence) work independently in satellite services across the county.
This is a developmental role with a clear strategy for training. You will work on occasions autonomously but within Trust and NMC/AHP policies, protocols and guidelines.
You will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making, high levels of critical thinking and holistic practice as well as a thorough knowledge of EASL, BASL and NICE clinical guidelines.
This role is hospital and community based.
Main duties of the job
* Work autonomously, but within professional boundaries and the structure of the clinical and nursing team to effectively manage patients with viral hepatitis and chronic liver disease. Applying a psycho-bio-social model to the planning of treatment.
* Demonstrate cognisance of EASL, BASL and NICE guidelines for management of viral hepatitis.
* Demonstrate specialist expertise and advanced clinical skills in the management of patients preparing for treatment, those undergoing treatment and those who have completed treatment.
* Participate in the updating of service user database.
* Participate in advice, training and support for all healthcare workers in relation to liver disease and viral hepatitis.
* Play a major role in conducting clinical trials and liver research projects in collaboration with the research team.
* Demonstrate a high level of ability in monitoring patients, demonstrate cognisance of investigations and link this to the clinical management of patients.
* Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness appropriate to patient needs, and administer medication in accordance with PGD/ Independent Nurse Prescribing.
* Provide information and advice on prescribed or non-prescription medication, on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions.
* Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.

* Registered Nurse or AHP.
* Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area/evidence of recent appropriate experience.
