The main role of this post is to provide senior scientific support specifically in the Molecular radiotherapy service provided by the Radiotherapy Physics group and to act as a Medical Physics Expert, as defined in IR(ME)R 2017. The postholder will also work over a range of areas in Nuclear Medicine Physics including the support of SPECT/CT, PET/CT, in-vitro tests and radiation protection services. Radiotherapy Physics Services consists of a team of over 60 staff consisting of clinical scientists, dosimetrists and engineers. The Institute of Nuclear Medicine Physics team has 9 clinical scientists, and one physics assistant. Both teams work in close collaboration in the delivery of the Molecular radiotherapy (MRT) service alongside a dedicated radiographic team. The postholder will report to the Principal Physicist responsible for the MRT service and alongside another Senior MRT Physicist in delivering the scientific support for the service as well as leading on development projects and clinical trials involving MRT. Other nuclear medicine and radiotherapy physicists support the routine MRT activities under the guidance and supervision of the Principal and Senior Physicists. The Molecular Radiotherapy Service at UCLH delivers around 150 in-patient administrations per year to both adult and paediatric patients. These include I131 for thyroid cancer, I 131 miBG for neuroendocrine cancer and Lu177-Dotatate therapy. Further administrations of e.g. I-131 for thyrotoxicosis, Radium-223, Lutetium-177 and Actinium-225 PSMA, and other novel therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals are delivered by the Nuclear Medicine department. Ten protected side rooms are provided in the UCLH building, with six of these in regular clinical use; 4 rooms designated for adult activity and 2 rooms for Paediatric work.
