Senior Business Development Manager - Energy Storage - United Kingdom
We are looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to work within the UK or Italy and our European growth markets. You will be accountable for leading energy storage sales for cross-functional teams. Your role will be to ensure predictable and profitable sales, with a focus on sales margins, pricing strategies, and accurate cost estimations to benefit Wärtsilä, and to ensure project execution is predictable.
You will report to the Area Sales Director. The preferred locations are the UK or Italy.
Responsibilities:
* Lead energy storage sales opportunities
* Ensure qualitative sales and proper sales margins throughout project execution
* Develop and implement correct pricing strategies and accurate cost estimations
* Lead the stakeholder group and project sales team towards set goals
* Utilize S&OP data for assessing cost estimations and schedules
* Ensure detailed understanding of tenders and requirements within the project sales team and prepare high-quality tenders
* Evaluate risks effectively
* Conduct internal reviews and obtain necessary approvals
* Follow Wärtsilä contracting policies and negotiate contracts to achieve favorable terms
* Manage key customer relationships
* Track and report sales progress and maintain CRM data accuracy (Salesforce)
* Ensure proper sales documentation and successful deal closure
* Coordinate transfer of sales projects to execution teams
Requirements:
* Minimum 10 years of experience in the utility-scale renewable energy industry, preferably with battery energy storage experience
* Strong commitment to safety
* Proven leadership in high-performing sales teams, solution-oriented mindset
* Experience negotiating complex sales projects
* Understanding of contractual and risk management
* Excellent influencing and communication skills, especially with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
* Leadership by example and fostering collaboration
* Broad knowledge of energy storage solutions and market outlook
* Strong commercial acumen and customer focus
* Outstanding teamwork and coaching skills
* Results-driven with strong planning and execution skills
* Ability to inspire action towards future goals
* Ability to promote diversity, inclusion, and psychological safety
* Fluency in Italian is required; Spanish is preferred
* Willingness to travel
