Senior Estimator Required
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in cost estimation within the construction industry, demonstrating exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail. As a Senior Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the preparation of accurate and competitive bids, ensuring that all project costs are meticulously calculated and aligned with our strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
1. Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documents to prepare comprehensive and differing forms of tenders, budgets, cost estimates, etc. for construction projects.
2. Attend site visits and meetings with Barr Build team members and subsequent, ongoing appointments with specialist subcontractors and suppliers as necessary.
3. Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and resolve any discrepancies.
4. Conduct thorough quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications to determine material and labour costs for each project.
5. Utilise estimating software and tools to generate detailed cost breakdowns and proposals.
6. Obtain and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating pricing and terms to ensure competitive bids.
7. Prepare and submit bids and proposals in a timely manner ensuring all required information is included.
8. Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and propose mitigation strategies.
9. Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and proposals to clients and participate in negotiations as needed.
10. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators and support staff.
11. Manage, maintain and create new connections and relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and professional teams.
12. Maintain detailed records of estimates, including assumptions, methodologies and backup documentation.
13. Stay current with industry trends, construction methods, and cost management practices to ensure competitiveness and to improve estimating processes and accuracy.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Surveying or related field (or equivalent work experience).
2. Minimum of 10 years experience in construction estimating, preferably with a principal contractor.
3. Proficiency in construction estimating software will be an advantage.
4. Experienced in using Microsoft programs and software.
5. Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret complex plans and specifications.
6. High attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates and documentation.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, design teams, clients, and subcontractors.
8. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, problem solve and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment in order to meet challenging deadlines.
9. Knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes and contracts (particularly the JCT Suite).
10. Experience with value engineering and cost optimisation strategies is a plus.
11. Professional certifications such as CIOB, RICS or similar are desirable but not essential (subject to level of experience).
