Job Description:
Title: Public Health Consultant Older People, Mental Health & Learning Disability
Location: Hybrid - New Shire Hall, Huntingdon.
Type: Temporary until 31st March 2025
Opus People Solutions are working with Cambridgeshire County Council to recruit for an interim public health consultant who will line manage the Senior Partnership Manager for Falls Prevention and the Suicide Prevention Lead Officer.
The specific purpose of the position is to deliver strategic leadership for improving the health and wellbeing outcomes for older people, people with learning disabilities, and improving public mental health while preventing mental ill health.
This is a senior role in the local health and wellbeing community across CCC, working as part of a Public Health team and system committed to improving health and wellbeing in Cambridgeshire. The postholder will act as a change agent to enable delivery of relevant outcome indicators from the public health, NHS, and social care outcome frameworks.
It should be noted that the Consultant must meet the Professional Development (CPD) requirements in accordance with FPH or other recognised bodies.
Must be on the General Medical Council (GMC) / General Dental Council (GDC) or the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register or other specialist register with a license to practice. On behalf of the local authority, the post-holder, working with the Director of Public Health (DPH) and other consultant colleagues, will lead on improving the health and wellbeing of residents, which is underpinned by the statutory duty placed on local government to take appropriate steps to improve the health of its residents.
There is an expectation that the role will work across organisations, influence budgets held by those organisations, and advocate for change effectively to improve population and planetary health. The postholder may hold direct managerial responsibility for services and budgets that contribute to these objectives and will also have substantial strategic responsibilities across the council and other agencies.
This role will require working at a population level across prevention and care services and will involve commissioning and collaborating with partner organisations to improve outcomes. The post holder will also lead specialist public health input to the work of the Adult Social Care Directorate and associated commissioning, including research evidence, innovative models, and evaluation.
