Purpose of the Role The purpose of the waste recycling assistant role is to work with other team members to be the ambassadors to reducing general waste and increase recycling. The role involves collecting waste from designated areas throughout the centre and processing on the service deck. To ensure the back of house common areas are clean and maintained to a high standard, you are responsible for the cleanliness and safety of all back of house and service yard areas to the required standards. You will be expected to operate cleaning machines, compactors, balers and other machinery and equipment (after training) and present a professional, friendly image at all times. You will have the ability to work both individually and within a team. You will be capable of carrying out your duties without constant supervision and be proactive in ensuring your area of responsibility meets the highest possible standards of cleanliness and safety. Waste operative assistant role is to collect waste bins and loose debris from business properties. To contribute to the delivery and implementation of a high-quality waste and recycling collection service and support the operations team management to maximise income from services. To support the principals of waste minimisation and recycling, promote a positive image to improve The local environment. Key Responsibilities To actively promote the centre’s recycling policy with our retail partners Identify and seek opportunities to increase recycling Supporting the Soft Services Manager in the strategy to increase recycling and reduce general waste Taking the initiative in assisting contractors and retailers Ensuring a good knowledge of all facilities and processes in order to deal with customer’s queries, complaints and compliments in line with company procedure To ensure that all areas of responsibility are cleaned to the required standards and that all machinery is well maintained To follow all the departmental procedures and schedules correctly at all times To ensure that all waste is dealt with appropriately and to the required standards To comply with all health and safety procedures for the department including, COSHH, PPE, clinical waste and sharps policy Use of various machines in accordance with requirements including scrubber dryers, rotary scrubber, escalator cleaners, pressure washers, vacuum cleaning machines etc To liaise with team leaders and colleagues to ensure a smooth running of the department To transport waste from collection points, separate and compact appropriately whilst adhering to the centres recycling policy To clear snow/ice to allow for access to all areas gritting as necessary To ensure that all check sheets for machinery are used correctly To ensure the safe operation of machinery using the operators guide and wear protective clothing/footwear at all times Communicating well with colleagues, other teams and team leaders Attending regular team briefings and meetings Taking care of own and others health and safety To comply with HASAWA and all of the health and safety procedures for the department including COSHH – machinery check sheets, PPE etc Identifying hazards and take steps to correct them Maintaining a smart and well groomed appearance meeting our uniform standards Undertaking any further duties as requested by the supervisory or management team Increasing your knowledge and skills through education and training Attending in-house and external training relevant to your role You are an ambassador for the centre and for waste recycling, and as such you will actively promote recognition for the team, the centre, and the wider business through your exemplary behaviour To ensure that all waste is dealt with appropriately, emptying and cleaning bins when necessary. (Bins can weigh up to 20 kilos) Any other reasonable task requested by a member of the supervisory/management team such as working in side the mall to carry out cleaning duties ETC. Use various technology provided to you for compliance and insurance mitigation, Such as Over-C App. Skills, Knowledge and Experience Confident/friendly disposition Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in waste recycling processes Ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift repetitively during working hours Self-motivated with ability to identify and complete needed tasks without direct supervision Good communication skills both verbal and written Flexible/supportive team player Qualifications and experience: Essential: 1 to 3 years’ proven experience working as a waste operative/cleaner Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage and disposal methods. Ability to operate complex machinery (after training) such as compactors and balers. Desirable: Cleaning related qualifications such as BICS. Knowledge of COSHH policies and procedures.
