This role is part of BAT Biotechnology Team – focused on characterizing novel plant-derived high-value compounds for their effect on intracellular signaling pathways. The intern will work with our world-class scientists who strive to understand the potential of plants as a source of ingredients that can allow BAT to offer wider range of propositions to adult consumers. WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR Proteomics and phosphoproteomics, RNA quantification via PCR and qRT-PCR analysis, Data analysis and interpretation. Will communicate scientific findings to different audiences: This will give the intern the opportunity to build strong presentation skills and tailor their communication style to different audiences (specialists and non- specialists). Will gain experience in the world of biotechnology and in particular the discovery of novel plant-derived compounds and the characterization of their mode of action, which is at the heart of R&D in biopharma and consumer goods industries. Will understand how to operate in a very collaborative R&D environment and build a strong professional network. Will learn critical thinking from a scientific perspective (project and experimental design, troubleshooting methods) and a business perspective (market value of compounds tested, evaluation of cost of good and creation of a competitive advantage from price, quality, and impact on environment Perspectives). ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry; Bold decision making; Foresight and innovation; Scientific curiosity and critical thinking; Communication skills with specialist and non-specialist audiences, Data analysis and interpretation.
