Your Role and What You'll Be Doing
Our experienced Planning and Environmental team has a strong track record for providing the very best legal advice across a range of planning and environmental issues. It is nationally recognised in both Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and the Planning Magazine’s top planning practices and is headed by Claire Petricca-Riding, who was named as one of the top 100 leading environmental practitioners in the UK by ENDS Power List.
The team has considerable experience across various sectors, including development – commercial, residential, retirement living, education, retail, logistics, manufacturing, and waste management.
Members contribute to national publications such as EG, Property Week, Planning Magazine, and ENDS Report.
Recent activities include:
* Complex Section 106 Agreements for multi-use residential developments
* Due diligence reporting for re-financing major property portfolios
* Judicial review of mining schemes
* Planning enforcement issues for luxury residential developments
* Advice on brownfield redevelopment for city center regeneration
* Environmental liability advice for port groups
* Environmental liability considerations in acquisitions of fuel businesses
* Representation in odour nuisance claims and investigations
* Advising PBSA developers on campus regeneration
* Environmental due diligence for PRS developers and statutory agreement negotiations
The team handles both planning and environmental matters. As a solicitor, you'll work on a wide range of cases for notable clients, using your expertise for complex issues. This role supports team growth, business development, and mentoring junior members.
Applications are welcome from professionals in private practice, local authorities, or other public sectors.
This role can be based in Gatwick, Brighton, Southampton, or Chichester.
About You
* A strong track record in planning and/or environmental law
* Good knowledge of planning and environmental issues
* Familiarity with criminal law and judicial review processes
* Understanding of property and corporate due diligence
* Confidence to start effectively
* Enthusiasm for this legal area and commitment to client outcomes under pressure
* Network of third-party contacts and enthusiasm for networking, social media, and profile raising
