The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a detail-driven and proactive Laboratory Technician, to join our team in Macclesfield, UK. In this role, you’ll be responsible for providing operational support to analytical and microbiology laboratories, including tasks such as glass washing, equipment maintenance, and preparation of media for testing.
Please note: This role is physically demanding, and you may be walking over 10,000 steps while completing your duties, including handling deliveries and moving between work areas.
This role will be a full-time permanent position based at our customer’s site in Macclesfield. Next to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits such as a bonus, pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an additional day off for your birthday.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
The team
You’ll be part of the Quality Control Department and a close-knit team of eight Laboratory Technicians who support laboratory operations and prepare solutions for analytical testing. You’ll be part of our Lab and Production Services department, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories around the world, advancing research and development in the Life Sciences industry.

* Experience:
* Proven experience in a customer-facing role, demonstrating strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills
* Understanding of scientific processes and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is highly desirable
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with laboratory systems such as 1Lab is a plus
* Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and focus in all tasks, ensuring precision and quality in work
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
How you’ll thrive and create an impact
* Perform general laboratory support tasks, including washing glassware and plastics, maintaining laboratory equipment, managing stock, and handling deliveries to ensure smooth laboratory operations
* Prepare reagents, solutions, buffers, and other media following standard operating procedures and GMP guidelines
* Maintain and organize laboratory stock, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and accurately managing inventory levels
* Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring all items are in good working condition and compliant with safety and GMP standards
* Perform data entry using tools like 1Lab and Excel, maintain records for equipment servicing, and provide key metrics in line with team goals and targets
