Employment Advisor
Job Type: Full-time – 37 hours per week
Reed Health & Care are seeking a dedicated Employment Advisor to join one of our well-established clients in Newcastle.
This role is pivotal in helping adults with learning disabilities find employment, self-employment, and volunteering opportunities. The Employment Advisor will provide training, volunteering, and work experience placements, aiming to support clients in achieving meaningful work outcomes.
Salary: £25,000-£27,400 DOE, you will also receive mileage.
You would be required to travel between two of my client’s main hubs DL14 8JZ & NE3 3RY.
Day-to-day of the role:
1. Liaise with Local Authority’s Transitions & Learning Disability teams to identify clients in receipt of Day Services for the Working Journey’s Programme.
2. Work collaboratively with external private and government agencies such as Job Centre Plus, the National Careers Services, schools/colleges, and local employers to access suitable work-experience and employment opportunities.
3. Work collaboratively with the Voluntary Sector, Local Authority, and NHS Partners to secure transition from day-care to volunteering & work placements.
4. Advise on work placements and employment opportunities.
5. Prepare clients through job search, application, and interview stages.
6. Provide mentoring & support for clients who are volunteering.
7. Provide in-work facilitation for clients who have progressed to employment.
8. Provide information and guidance on DWP’s in-work benefits and services to support clients and hosting employers (e.g., Universal Credit, Access to Work, Disability Confident).
9. Provide pre-employment & retention support for hosting employers.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
1. Experience in a similar role, preferably working with adults with learning disabilities.
2. Disability-specialist training – Positive behaviour Support, Autism awareness, Makaton, BSL (desirable).
3. Have completed safeguarding adults training (desirable).
4. Advice & guidance qualification.
5. Must have a valid UK driver's license or be happy to travel via public transport.
6. Strong understanding of the challenges faced by this demographic in the employment sector.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to motivate and inspire confidence in others.
9. Computer literate – must be able to use Microsoft Office packages and social media platforms.
