A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with effective communication skills, who are confident to interpret blood results, ECG's and make decisions based on their clinical findings.
We require candidates to have excellent verbal, written and IT skills in order to document an accurate medical history, and identify high risk patients requiring further review.
A knowledge of surgical specialties/procedures is useful, but not essential. As a pre-assessment nurse you must be able to cope with a caseload independently.
This will require the ability to prioritise, multitask and manage your time effectively.
As a band 5 you will be supported by a team of band 6 specialist nurses to support and improve your decision making.

Our Current Operational Hours:
Monday- Friday 0800-1800 hrs (Excluding BH)
Fulltime nurse will be required to work x4 shifts per week.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care given to patients during the perioperative period.
Undertake History taking, Record relevant Medical, surgical, drug history. Refer patients on as required to anaesthetic team, pharmacy team, or primary care.
Undertake risk assessments, Physical examination, chest auscultation, Record and Interpret ECGs, Request bloods and act on abnormalities. Request diagnostics as indicated in POA Policy.
Participate in early screening and optimisation pathway.

Work under the guidance and supervision of more experienced staff when developing additional specialist skills and knowledge relevant to the area of practice.
Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Participating in clinical audit as required to support the improvement of patient care within the perioperative period.
Report any faults or concerns with equipment, withdrawing from use if necessary.
Undertake the safe cleaning and decontamination of equipment when required in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
Exercise due care for self and others when exposed to and handling blood and other hazardous body fluids, adhering to departmental policies, including the safe disposal of sharps.
Ensure the correct labelling and dispatch of clinical specimens in accordance with Trust and local policies and procedures.
Participate in the replacement of stock to agreed levels, ensuring the correct rotation of stock in use.
Report any shortages to the team leader.
Be aware of personal responsibility for accuracy in record keeping.
Ensure all records are accurate, complete and legible and that computerised data is complete, accurate and timely.
Contribute to the delivery of a cost-effective service, practicing with due regard for the cost consequences of own actions.
