Main duties of consultant: Clinical: The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients with haemato oncological malignancies aged 0 19 years and also manage non malignant haematology patients and haemoglobinopathy patients (2PA). The post holder will participate in the 1 in 6 consultant of the week system, providing cross cover for in-patient activity, dealing with new referrals, initial diagnostic work-up, planning and delivery of treatment and care. The post-holder will work as an integral member of the team, attending and contributing to the established Oxford multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. The post-holder will share responsibilities to review patients on the day unit, supporting the fellows and staff grades, and independently lead outpatient clinics. The postholder will provide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists within CHOX Childrens Services and paediatricians within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance. Chemotherapy prescribing The Post holder will prescribe SACT ( systemic anti cancer therapy) as per the guidelines in the prescribing policy. Outpatient Care: On-treatment outpatient care is delivered on Kamrans Day Care, a separate area for the administration of chemotherapy, blood products and assessment of patients. The successful candidate will be expected to see patients and support the clinical fellows/speciality doctors in Day Care. Follow-up clinics for patients not on active treatment occur in the dedicated Childrens Outpatients. Childrens Outpatients is also the site for haematology follow up and benign haematology clinics, e.g. haemoglobinopathy. A large and active Paediatric Haemophilia service is based in the outpatients clinic at CHOX The service has weekly malignant haematology multidisciplinary team (MDT), solid tumour & lymphoma, Teenage and Young Adult (TYA), psychooncology, neuro-oncology and sarcoma meetings. Patients are reviewed and management plans enacted at these meetings. All MDTs are well supported by integrated surgical oncology, pathology and diagnostic radiology teams.
