We are a small family-run independent school for students with special educational needs aged between 11 and 16 years old. As a SEND school, we have students with various educational needs, including looked-after children who present different challenges. We specialize in students with Autism and/or ADHD coupled with SEMH needs. Many of our students experience high anxiety and low self-esteem, requiring a nurturing environment.
A major part of our school and the support we offer students is based around our Equine yard. We have around 40 horses on site, and students have access to them through planned lessons and interventions. All staff are expected to support students in all activities. Although prior experience with horses isn't necessary, all staff must be willing to assist students with activities on the yard.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Student Behaviour and Teaching Support Worker to join our team.
The successful applicant will be required to:
* Follow our positive behaviour policy
* Support students' behaviour within the lesson
* Support student behaviour when unregulated and unable to access the classroom
* Support learning within the lesson
* Support students on the yard and in other outside activities
* Aid the teacher in the smooth running of lessons
* Help to ensure behaviour standards are upheld at all times
* Support students during Break and Lunch
* Help to serve food during Breaks and Lunch
* Help to ensure the tidiness of the rooms and site in general
* Prepare classrooms for the new term during holidays
* Occasionally support yard staff in tasks
* Participate in training to improve your skills
* Deliver planned interventions
* Be flexible, as each day brings new and different challenges depending on the students.
* Work well as part of a team and maintain a positive mindset.
We don't allocate people to individual students; rather, we keep a flexible approach to provide support where needed. Certain interventions will be timetabled, as well as certain lessons that require support (e.g., Forestry, Cooking). Please see the job description attached to the post for more information.
Important information:
* We are open Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm (Students on site 8:45 am to 3:45 pm)
* We are looking for full-time, but are also willing to discuss part-time as we have a few vacancies due to increasing student numbers.
* There is a staff uniform which will be required to be purchased from school trends.
* Our contracts are 52 weeks; everyone gets 28 days paid holiday (this is full-time equivalent and would be adjusted for part-time) to be taken during the school holidays. When you are working during the holidays, this will be a mix of training and preparing classrooms and site for the new term.
* Term Times follow Derbyshire's, but due to the longer school day, we get an extra 3 weeks; these are published on our website.
* Staff meetings after work every fortnight for everyone to attend.
* Probation period of 6 months.
* Private healthcare scheme available after the probation period.
* CPD and training opportunities available.
* We work on a tiered wage structure based on experience and relevant qualifications; there are opportunities to work up the wage structure.
* All successful applicants will need 2 references (one from your last employer) and a DBS, which we will do if an offer is accepted. We would also need copies of ID and relevant qualifications.
We review candidates on receipt of application. If we think you would be a good fit, we will invite you for an interview to learn more about us, for us to get to know you, and for you to look around the school and see what we do. After this, we would invite you to spend a half day with us as a trial to see how you get on with the students in our environment before being able to make offers of employment.
