About the Role
The Department of Engineering and Design at the University of Sussex is looking to appoint a Lecturer in engineering with expertise in one or more of the areas of materials, mechanical, manufacturing or robotics engineering. The Department is part of the School of Engineering and Informatics, which delivers world-class research and high-quality teaching in automotive, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, product design as well as in computer science.
The successful applicant will be responsible for devising and delivering teaching for the Department in our mechanical, automotive or robotic engineering courses. We are looking for enthusiastic and adaptable individuals who will integrate easily into the department, able to take over various teaching roles. Part of the activity will be teaching in our Trans National Education programmes abroad.

About You
Educated at doctoral level, you will have research interests in one or more of the fields of mechanical, materials engineering, including biomaterials and materials for energy applications and manufacturing technologies. You will join our newly formed materials research group, part of the Energy and Materials Engineering Research Centre. You will have a track record of publications in high-quality international journals and engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity contributing to the department’s REF submission. You will develop research funding and knowledge exchange income individually or in collaboration with others, as appropriate, depending on the size and scope of the bid.
You will have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with students using a variety of teaching methods and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. We expect you to be willing to engage with teaching and spend time abroad as part of our programmes delivered overseas. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work individually and as part of a team. Excellent IT skills and the ability to produce high-quality and inclusive teaching materials will also be essential. You will have experience in teaching in higher education in the fields mentioned above. Fellowship of the HEA would be an advantage.
