Work within the nursing team as a trained, caring and professional phlebotomist. To ensure the collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures.
2. Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
3. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
4. Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible.
5. Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure.
6. Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
7. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
8. Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues.
9. Performing the home BP system.
10. Testing samples as directed.
11. Performing INR tests and maintaining accurate records as per practice protocol.
12. Blood pressure monitoring.
13. Supporting the nursing team in administrative duties such as co-ordinating annual housebound patient checks.
14. Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.
15. The post holder will undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested.
