We are excited to invite compassionate and dedicated individuals to apply for the role of Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher at one of our outstanding Special Schools located in the S8 area. This school caters to primary-aged children (4-11 years) with a diverse range of special educational needs and disabilities, providing a supportive and inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
About the Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will play a key role in supporting the academic and social development of children with varying abilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating an engaging and adaptive curriculum, implementing effective teaching strategies, and supporting students in reaching their full potential. You will work within a collaborative team to ensure the students receive the best possible care, education, and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop engaging, inclusive, and well-structured lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum and meet the diverse needs of the students.
2. Use creative and varied instructional strategies to engage students, including hands-on activities, group projects, and multimedia resources.
3. Teach in a clear and effective manner, ensuring all students understand and engage with the material.
4. Adapt your teaching style and resources to meet the needs of each student, including those with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other special needs.
5. Conduct regular assessments to monitor students’ progress and adjust teaching methods as needed to support individual learning goals.
6. Provide constructive and actionable feedback to students and their families, helping them achieve their full potential.
7. Foster a positive, respectful classroom environment by implementing strategies to manage behaviour and encourage active participation.
8. Work closely with teaching assistants to provide one-on-one or small group support as needed.
9. Assist in managing challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement and a calm, patient approach.
10. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to understand their emotional and social needs, helping them develop essential life skills.
11. Provide guidance and support to students, helping them navigate challenges both in and outside of the classroom.
12. Collaborate with fellow teachers, special education professionals, and support staff to ensure the students’ academic and emotional needs are met.
13. Maintain strong communication with parents and guardians, regularly updating them on their child’s progress and working together to address any concerns.
14. Where necessary, provide personal care and assist students with mobility or physical needs, always maintaining dignity and respect.
15. Promote inclusivity in the classroom, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported.
