This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic, innovative and friendly pharmacy team dedicated to improving our ward based clinical pharmacy services.
In this key post you will be working as part of an established multidisciplinary team and developing new roles and ways of working to provide high-quality clinical pharmacy services to our specialist Surgery wards. You will use up to date resources including newly introduced electronic prescribing and pharmacy records systems.
You will be providing clinical support to specialty services including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Emergency Surgery, Urology and General Surgery.
The post holder will work closely with the Principal Pharmacist - Surgery Pharmacy Lead - Critical Care, Specialist Pharmacist for Vascular Surgery, Pharmacy Lead - Clinical Services, Deputy Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Directors within Surgery.
You will have oversight of the medicines use, medicines management and medicines safety within the sites' Surgical wards and services.
You will lead on the strategic development of the pharmacy clinical and ward-based services and lead on reducing risks associated with medicines within the sites' Surgery and Surgery admissions wards.
Main duties of the job
As an enthusiastic and patient-oriented pharmacist, you will combine expert knowledge, clinical opinion and experience, at the bedside to benefit individual patient care. You will be working in the clinical forefront as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver and continually improve medicines management for all patients under the care of the Surgical directorate.
This position offers the opportunity to build on your management and training experience to grow and improve the Pharmacy team. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in specialist areas of clinical care including Acute pain management, Opioid Stewardship, Urology, General surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics.
You will need excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills and will need to enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will need post-registration experience relevant to hospital pharmacy and will have the Post Graduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.
About us
This is a senior position within the clinical pharmacy services team. You will support the Clinical Services Lead with audits and projects to improve services, provide training within Pharmacy and the wider multidisciplinary team, and manage rotational pharmacists in the clinical team.

Overall, you will be responsible for optimising medicines prescribed throughout the peri and post operative periods. You will make timely pharmaceutical interventions to optimise pharmaceutical care. You will support the prescribing processes providing expert advice and support to prescribers and other healthcare providers. You will facilitate rapid discharge; thereby facilitating high quality patient outcomes whilst ensuring patient will support post discharge care by ensuring the provision of relevant advice to patient and primary care services.
