The Role
To protect and improve health and reduce inequalities through the application of expert pharmaceutical, and public health knowledge, skills and resources across Lanarkshire and at national level as appropriate.
This will encompass promoting and protecting health, prolonging valued life, preventing and treating disease, reducing inequalities, developing healthy partnerships, encouraging community participation, teaching/training and research and development.
To undertake strategic, professional and managerial functions locally, regionally and on an all-Scotland basis and will lead and influence across agencies at a most senior level. In Lanarkshire, this post will have significant responsibility for assessing the health status of the population, their ability to benefit from preventive interventions, pharmaceutical care including major incident planning and response, health technology assessment and provision of advice on quality, safety, effectiveness and sustainability (including cost effectiveness and affordability) of pharmaceutical care plans and pathways of care.
This will be achieved by working in close collaboration with multiple senior managerial and clinical/professional leaders in many agencies to design and implement new clinical pathways and standards of care and to quality assure service delivery. A key result will be the significant contribution from pharmacy services to whole system redesign with outcomes of improved access, quality and service efficiency for patients and all stakeholders, including community pharmacy services and services hosted by Health and Social Care Partnerships.
The post holder will be the departmental lead responsible for pharmaceutical input into the development, production and implementation of key strategic documents at Health Board and HSCP level including the NHS Lanarkshire Pharmaceutical Care Services Plan.
The imperatives of delivering services in response to local needs and priorities agreed by the Health Board, Health and Social Care Partnerships and future systems require the post holder to be innovative and responsive in identifying, developing and implementing new services which meet the bespoke needs of local populations and care systems.

What we'll need you to bring
Essential
Qualification
* Master of Pharmacy degree
* Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Accredited relevant post graduate MSc pharmacy qualification (or equivalent) or evidence of equivalent specialist knowledge gained through experience obtained in a public health or other clinical setting
Experience
* Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification.
* Evidence of post qualification continuing professional development.
* Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current health and social care policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
* Knowledge and experience of the pharmacy processes across community pharmacy, hospital and primary care.
* Experience of successfully implementing pharmacy services in any setting.
Knowledge
* Demonstrates sound judgement in the absence of clear guidelines or precedent, seeking advice as necessary from more senior management when appropriate.
* Leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning with highly developed political skills.
Ability to work on own initiative and organise workload, allocating work as necessary, working to tight and often changing deadlines.

It would be great if you also have
Postgraduate clinical qualification in appropriate area of pharmacy practice
Royal Pharmaceutical Society membership
Independent prescriber or prepared to work towards
Experience of clinical audit or clinical effectiveness activities
Evidence of innovation in previous posts
Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical practice
Use available data sources to identify unmet health needs and influence change via wider health services
Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation and report writing
Proven influencing and negotiating skills and the ability to motivate others to develop systems of work to address a variety of clinical issues
Evidence of working to deadlines under pressure
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to communicate effectively
Ability to work autonomously
Knowledge of common computer systems and the ability to interpret prescribing data
Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
Ability to chair and participate in a wide range of meeting settings
