This full-time (35 hrs a week) London-based ecclesiastical property lawyer vacancy is to work within the largest ecclesiastical practice in the UK. Led by Aiden Hargreaves-Smith and consisting of 13 people (including 5 partners), the team advises both the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church on every kind of issue that churches may face, including parish reorganisations, marriage law, appointment of clergy, and the highly complex area of land and property.
As a lawyer in the team, you will focus on property matters relating to church land, dealing with church yards and buildings on planning/operational changes to the use of the property, and sales/purchases. You will undertake an exceptional variety of high-quality property transactions including charity property disposals and acquisitions, commercial leases, assisting with major development projects, and a range of unusual and interesting instructions.
ABOUT YOU
You will be able to demonstrate previous experience in real estate legal work (commercial and residential property), and/or have experience working in an ecclesiastical practice. The team has a very strong vocational interest in ecclesiastical law, so you will also be able to demonstrate a good, up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the Church of England. You will thrive on understanding the complexity and various nuances of an area of law that many firms do not operate in and enjoy the process of learning, whilst balancing a varied and interesting caseload.
In return, you will be joining one of the best ecclesiastical practices in the country and be surrounded by supportive, knowledgeable colleagues.
