Hours freelance, goal max 32 hours per week
“Hi! I’m Gabriella – the founder of HINT. Here’s the deal: I’m founding an astrology app, am in the early startup phase of this, and am looking for someone who is tech-savvy to collaborate with me to curate the MVP – which will be a web app. Whilst HINT has a clear vision, features, and branding, I have no clue about the actual building of a web app (kind of important, huh?), which is why I need you, and am searching for UAL students because, having come from a creative background myself, I strongly value innovation.
The setup: This will be a highly collaborative experience where you will be working with me as I brief you on the vision, the branding, the wireframe ideas, etc., and you get to do the creative and technical execution! If you are looking to later get a long-term job in tech development, design, UX/UI, web development, etc., this will give you a plethora of key experiences that you will be able to use moving forward, and will look brilliant on your CV (along with the reference letter you will get).
Remember, what you will be building will be an MVP. So there are possible future hiring opportunities later down the line.”
Responsibilities
* Build the core functionality of the web app, focusing on interactive daily astrology features.
* Work closely with Gabriella to translate ideas and wireframes into a functional, user-friendly interface.
* Implement responsive design for seamless use across devices (desktop, tablet, and mobile).
* Set up and manage basic server-side functionality to handle user data and app interactions.
* Possibly develop or integrate APIs for astrology data (e.g., birth chart calculations, daily horoscopes).
* Incorporate HINT’s brand identity into the app’s design.
* Build and execute the actual product (the web app). This can be done via coding or a no-code app (e.g., Bubble.io), and will be discussed upon hiring.
Skills and Experience Required
Founder message:
“I’m not going to waste your time by including ‘strong communication skills’ or ‘self-motivated’ on here. These things are a given, and I trust that if you are applying, you are excited and passionate about having this experience, so you can also have fun – because that’s a key thing.
But I will say this: you don’t need to have had a side job at a tech company for the past three years of your studies. You don’t need to have been building your own app alongside all your Uni obligations or any other of these preposterous things the job market demands nowadays. But you do need to have confidence in your ability to create a well-functioning web app/platform that keeps the user experience strongly in mind. And the more you can share your personality, your passion, and what you are good at in your application, the better!
If you have worked for anyone else before, I’d love to see what you’ve done. But if you don’t have experience, don’t worry because this is not a ‘must’ for me and definitely is not the main thing I’m looking for. I want to see examples of your skills – projects, ideas, things you’ve built and done as part of your studies, or simply for fun… all of this kind of stuff is really important.”
* Strong understanding of user experience (UX) principles and an ability to create intuitive, engaging designs.
* Core understanding and ability to execute well on the logistics tech-y side of things (e.g., workflows, APIs, databases, coding if you aren’t going to be using a no-code app, etc.).
* Brilliant at troubleshooting issues and finding creative solutions.
* Product integrations (will definitely be necessary to integrate Google Calendar and Stripe).
* An eye for aesthetics, as well as efficiency.
* Cover letter (basically… why do you care about this role? Why do you want it? And what do you feel you could bring to the table? I also would love to know a bit about you – what you care about in general, and what’s meaningful and exciting to you).
* Links, examples, or descriptions of any previous projects, work, experience… anything that you think can relate to this role.
* If you want to get creative and send a video or something out of the box, please go ahead!
