Job summary
We are looking for candidates with management/leadership experience and ideally stem cell apheresis experience to recruit to a band 7 fixed term/secondment .
We also welcome applications from nurses with no management experience or apheresis training who would be considered for the post at band 6 level on a fixed term/secondment basis. Full training will be provided where necessary.
This is a rare opportunity for a professional Lead Nurse Specialist to join the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry (WBMDR) and work in the rapidly expanding field of cellular therapies. Each year we facilitate the provision of cellular therapy products to patients in the UK and overseas. Cellular therapies have become a curative measure for blood cancer and haematological disorders. Your role within the WBMDR will directly contribute to saving and improving peoples' lives.
The WBMDR manages a number of collection centres and you will be required to actively participate in the collection procedures for PBSC apheresis and bone marrow via needle aspiration. Experience is stem cell collection via apheresis is highly desirable.
Responsible for the clinical leadership of the WBMDR Specialist Nursing staff.
Responsible for the management of the stem cell/lymphocyte apheresis collections at the Velindre Cancer Centre.
Responsible for the line management of Band 6 WBMDR Nurse Specialist staff.
Onsite secure parking for all staff.
Main duties of the job
Provide clinical leadership for WBMDR Specialist Nurse, Stem Cell Donation Coordination Unit staff and Stem Cell collection Staff.
Provide line management for Band 6 WBMDR Nurse Specialist
Deputise for the Head of WBMDR.
Development and delivery of stem cell collection multidisciplinary education and training programmes
Lead role in clinical audit and service development to improve donor care and experience
Take the lead in clinical incident investigations, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action.
Develop and maintain National and International collaborations to benchmark services to develop WBMDR and International stem cell donor care programmes in line with evidence based best practice.
Collaborate with WBMDR Medical Director and Head of WBMDR to develop and implement specialised donor care programmes
Assist the Head of WBMDR in development and implementation of the WBMDR strategic plan
Maintaining and Improving Clinical Standards
Behave Professionally and ability to act as a role model
Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
1. Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
2. Degree and post graduate 'Masters' level qualification or equivalent level of post qualification experience. Specialist knowledge of haematology.
3. Demonstrate a specialist understanding of stem cell transplant and donation procedures.
4. Knowledge of guidelines around donor selection for HPC donation

5. Counselling qualification
6. Independent Prescribing qualification.
Experience
Essential
7. Experience of clinical management and understanding of the principles of clinical effectiveness and best practice including audit.

8. Experience of HTA, ISO:15189 or FACT- JACIE accreditation
