A Senior Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Engineer is sought by a globally recognised organisation specialising in innovative solutions critical to manufacturing processes. The company is dedicated to environmental sustainability, assisting clients in reducing their environmental impact.
Reporting to the Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Manager, the Senior Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Engineer will oversee projects from concept to customer commissioning and field trials. This role involves implementing engineering strategies, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring on-time delivery within budget and specifications.
Main Responsibilities
* Lead engineering and product development teams, using engineering tools to clarify requirements and deliver cost-effective, standards-compliant products.
* Collaborate with and influence engineering teams to ensure clear work packages, resolve technical issues, and determine optimal solutions.
* Take accountability for the technical design of assigned product systems/subsystems, identifying risks, implementing mitigation actions, and escalating issues when necessary.
* Ensure modularity and standardisation to maximise reuse of engineering efforts.
* Oversee safety and type testing of systems/subsystems, verifying compliance and approving related reports.
* Contribute to project planning, prioritise tasks, monitor progress, and mitigate obstacles to meet timelines.
* Drive continuous improvement of controls engineering processes.
* Provide technical content for manuals, build notes, and service instructions, and review content produced by others.
* Perform tests and provide expert-level support for factory and field issues.
* Experience & Skills
o Minimum of 5 years’ experience in controls and software within relevant industries. (Essential)
o HND (or equivalent) or degree in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., electrical, instrumentation, controls, or software). (Essential)
o Substantial experience in best-practice product design and development for electrical controls and instrumentation in a related engineering industry, including:
o PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text, function blocks, data structures), HMI programming (VB.net or other high-level languages), communication protocols (Modbus), creation of technical documentation, and administration of software configuration control tools, version numbering, release processes, and archiving. Understanding of P&ID diagrams, electrical schematics, and PID loops. (Essential)
o Knowledge of control, communications, and software architectures, PLC hardware selection, software development environments, simulation/test tools, troubleshooting with diagnostic tools, and web development tools (HTML5, JavaScript, ASP). (Desirable)
o Strong experience in compliance-driven industries, such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with expertise in standards like Low Voltage Directive (EN/UL61010, EN60204), EMC Directive (EN61326-1), Functional Safety (SIL ratings, EN 61508, EN 13849, EN 61511), safety/design review methods (HAZOP, FMEA), semiconductor industry standards (SEMI S2), and risk assessment (Semi S10, EN 12100).
