This post has been developed to support the management of planned care services at the Gilbert Bain Hospital and is currently offered as a secondment for 12 weeks due to covering a secondment, but could be extended to the end of March 2027.
The Gilbert Bain Hospital has 34 acute beds, 2 HDU beds, a Maternity Unit, Day Surgery Unit and an Ambulatory Care facility. The Hospital also has a full range of diagnostic, inpatient and outpatient services and is located in Lerwick, Shetland.
This post is supported by a wider management team and will report to the Elective Care Lead. They will work closely with the Diagnostics Lead, Deputy Director of Acute and Chief Nurse (Acute & Specialist Services) to ensure that there is effective leadership, management and delivery of planned clinical services in Shetland and through shared pathways with NHS Grampian. In particular, they will take a lead on oversight of patient flow, patient focussed booking, healthcare for overseas visitors and improvement work to support digitisation of the clinical pathway and health records functions
The Planned Care Operational Manager will also link in with services/partners in Community Health & Social Care on a routine basis.
We are looking for someone with general healthcare management experience; preferably with knowledge of planned care specifically and a good understanding of remote and rural healthcare. Good communication, negotiation and influencing skills, are essential, together with the ability to lead others and manage a complex and diverse workload to deadlines.
This post would suit someone with general management experience at departmental level or a clinician with experience of leading a team, who is looking for additional management experience.
