We are looking to recruit an Online Tutor to join our BA Hons Illustration (Online) team in the School of Art. Your role will involve working on the level six Define module. You will introduce students to ideas around their last major negotiated project before their final submission of the BA, as well as our course publication Lore. Topics covered may include looking at the working practice of illustrators both from a commercial and authorial viewpoint. Furthering understanding of digital and analogue media and process will also continue. Publishing and editorial work will also be a feature of this module, as will commercial publishing protocols. The module content is already recorded, the online tutor leads discussions and reviews students work in weekly tutorials and webinars. Students engage with pre-recorded content that has been created by module leaders in the virtual learning environment and work through this during the week in their own time and come together to meet their online tutor for live sessions. We also have a programme of visiting lecturers who participate in live online events. As the Online Tutor you will deliver live sessions such as webinars and tutorials each week a global cohort of students. Around these live sessions you will be responsible for pastoral support, and academic guidance via emails, one to ones and an online studio space. You will work closely with the course leader and module leaders to ensure best possible student experience. The hours for this role are flexible and spread throughout the week as agreed by your line manager. Tutorials take place at the beginning of the week and webinars at the end. The cohort is global so the times of these sessions will alternate am and pm to ensure all can attend. The flexibility of this role means that you can fit the hours around existing responsibilities. The role compliments individuals who have freelance careers or other teaching commitments. Each online tutor is responsible for no more than 30 students per tutor group, making this an extremely rewarding role. The Online Tutor for this module will be allocated 208 hours to support up to 30 students with learning, assessment and feedback, working January 2025 to May 2025. About You Educated to degree level, or having equivalent industry experience, the ideal candidate will have experience in working with groups of students from diverse backgrounds at HE level. Student focused, well organised, and digitally literate you will be running live tutorials, webinars, online workshops and providing support for a group of students. You will have specialist knowledge of working within illustration, in particular being confident with interdisciplinary approaches. Previous experience teaching is required as well as excellent communication skills, and the commitment to deliver an excellent online learning experience for students. You will have knowledge of assessment and pastoral support. We are looking to hear from candidates who also have the following skills/experience: Experience of working with online learning, and understanding of the principles and practicalities of this area. Outstanding communication skills Strong connections with industry and professional practice. In particular this module would benefit from editorial, paper engineering and publishing experience.
