The Vacancy
The Automation Transformation Team are looking for a skilled Senior Advisor to join their team, based in Coventry.
Main Responsibilities:
* To lead a broad range of automation and manufacturing-related projects, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.
* Support with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new automated production capability into customers, partners or industrial members premises.
* Undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on automation technology/manufacturing readiness levels TRL 7+/MRL 5+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.
* Where delegated and approved, to act as Technical Governance lead for project deliverables.
* Support the Business Development function with customer engagement activities, including line walks and site visits, project scoping and support with proposal generation and customer presentations.
* Support the Marketing and Business Development functions, when required, at trade shows, conferences and seminars, including manning of MTC exhibition booths and the associated capture of new contacts and leads.
* Proactively instigate and lead engagement with existing customers to identify, bid for and win repeat business.
* Generation of key project and strategic initiatives in alignment with the Industrial Transformation Group’s Play to Win strategy to deploy manufacturing best practice, business improvement, technology insertion for industrial customer / member / internal / Innovate UK and other funded projects.
* You will take the lead and ownership in proposal of new capability development projects that align with the Industrial Transformation Group and overall MTC strategy, and able to explore different routes for project funding i.e. internal, industrial, or CR&D funding.
* Lead and contribute to horizon scanning of technologies and new approaches to solving industrial problems across a range of industrial sectors.
* Identify and support continuous improvement in technical aspects of the MTC’s project delivery capability including behaviours, processes, tools and techniques.
* Coach and mentor colleagues and transfer knowledge in area of expertise to others, in Automation Transformation, the Industrial Transformation Group and the wider MTC.
* Support and encourage team members through training and development where appropriate.
* Show ownership of Health and Safety to ensure own and your colleague’s health (both physical & mental), pro-actively reporting any concerns, near-misses or accidents.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
* Degree calibre engineer or technologist.
* Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong commercial awareness.
* Experience working where subsequent adherence to associated process and policy is critical to maintain customer confidentiality.
* Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations, both within a team, or independently.
* Significant experience communicating professionally and effectively at all levels, both internally and externally with customers and stake-holders.
* Substantial, demonstrable experience in the requirements capture, specification, design and implementation of automated manufacturing solutions (examples include robotics, indexing and continuous motion machines, jigs and fixtures, specialist processes for joining, filling, packaging etc).
* Highly competent in the use and deployment of analytical tools and techniques, including process mapping, problem solving and trouble-shooting of production equipment and systems.
* Fully competent in use of MS Office software, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
* Able to train others in the principles and application of these tools and techniques.
* Willing to learn and adopt new tools and techniques as required to support our customers. e.g. supply chain assessment, TRL/MRL assessment etc.
