Role Overview
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) key areas of responsibility are as follows:
To provide effective and efficient SEND provision across the school.
The SENCO will work with the support of, and under the direction of the Head Teacher, Deputy Head and leadership team.
Responsibilities
This is a teacher position, therefore, the Professional duties of teachers are set out in the School Teachers pay & Conditions Document.
Teacher Purpose:
1. Responsibility for a Class
Co-ordinating activities relating to personalised learning to include:
1. Developing, monitoring, reviewing, evaluating effectiveness of and reporting on policy, action plans and practice.
2. Planning and managing associated resources/teaching materials, teaching programmes, courses of study, methods of teaching and assessment.
3. Giving guidance, support and encouragement to staff and leading in-service development sessions.
Specific duties include:
1. Accountability for ensuring the highest standards of individual pupil achievement.
2. Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others.
3. Accountability for the strategic leadership and management of additional needs.
4. Team Leader for Performance Management and Line management of the learning support team.
Duties
Strategic Direction and Development of SEND provision in the School
1. Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the policy.
2. Support all staff in understanding the needs of additional needs pupils.
3. Monitor progress of objectives and targets for pupils with additional needs.
4. Analyse and interpret relevant school, local and national data.
5. Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools.
Teaching & Learning
1. Support the identification of the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with additional needs.
2. Work with the Senior Leadership Team to develop effective ways of bridging barriers to learning.
3. Support Inclusion Leaders to collect and interpret specialist assessment data.
4. Undertake day-to-day coordination of additional needs pupils' provisions.
5. Ensure all pupil's learning is of equal importance.
Leading and Managing
1. Provide professional guidance to staff.
2. Allocate staff and resources in relation to the needs of the pupils.
3. Support the Inclusion Leader to lead the personalised learning in the school.
Further Information
This role is a fixed term contract for one year, commencing January 2025.
Candidates will be considered without the SENCO qualification and will be paid within the main scale pay range. Upon completion of the SENCO qualification, the candidate will be awarded a SEN allowance.
Working hours: 9am to 3pm two days per week, days to be agreed with the school.
School base: initially, this role will be based at Bentley St Paul's Church of England Primary School.
