Occupational Therapist - Older People's Mental Health

To work as an integral member of the team and service providing an efficient, clinically effective, and high-quality Occupational Therapy (OT) service for older people with mental health problems, liaising effectively with all those involved in service provision for the client group. To work within a variety of settings dependent upon client need, in line with service priorities and objectives, promoting a person-centred approach and a culture of recovery and enablement. To work collaboratively with all relevant parties providing: professional support, advice (and training if appropriate) on occupational therapy and mental health issues. The post holder will also participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of the team, service and of occupational therapy provision.
Main duties of the job
To work with clients and carers to assess occupational performance and plan and carry out goal orientated interventions, as part of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
Understand the theory of occupational therapy.
Work with clients, carers and care staff providing evidence based holistic Occupational Therapy and Mental Health Assessment, implementing the Occupational Therapy process; gathering and evaluating information as part of this process. Assessment methods include the use of specialist Mental Health and Occupational Therapy assessment tools.
Provide information from specialist assessments to other members of the M.D.T, to assist in the differential diagnosis, further assessment and care planning of/ for clients.
Prioritise and manage a caseload of clients with complex mental health needs, taking on the role of care co-ordinator where appropriate.
Plan and implement clients-centred interventions to achieve occupational and other therapeutic goals.

* Demonstrable post registration experience commensurate with post and duties (including experience of specialist assessments and interventions with older people with mental health problems, including dementia)
