Job Purpose: Working as part of the physiotherapy team, to provide quality therapeutic care through the delivery of specified assessment and treatment programmes to a limited patient group, as directed by the senior therapist. This will involve working unsupervised with patients who are familiar to them and at times will involve working with both qualified and unqualified staff including Physiotherapy assistants. To provide clerical and administrative support to qualified staff and students and to undertake delegated housekeeping and stock control tasks. To participate in the weekend service. The speciality dependant on experience. This service may include the treatment of children. Working hours will be dependent upon the service provided within each speciality, this may include 7 day working or participation in a relevant weekend/bank holiday rota. Key Duties: Clinical: Following appropriate training and demonstration of competency to a specified level, work unsupervised in a range of individual or group therapeutic activities, under direct supervision of a qualified physiotherapist or senior assistant. To assist physiotherapists and senior assistants to assess range of movement, muscle power, sensation, sitting and standing balance and transfer abilities. To assess and progress patients mobility which may include issuing, training and the progression in using walking aids, under supervision of a qualified physiotherapist. To monitor patients during treatment and progress the treatment plan following consultation with a physiotherapist or senior assistant. To deliver specified treatments with empathy under the management of a physiotherapist. To prepare patients for treatment including undressing, removal of splints and toileting. To maintain using accepted protocols accurate and contemporaneous treatment records including valid consent appropriate to the intervention. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times. To be aware of own limitation of knowledge in relationship to physiotherapy and to refer back to the supervising physiotherapist when appropriate. To work contracted hours over 7 days within specific specialities. To participate in the weekend service. The speciality dependant on experience. This service may include the treatment of children. To maintain accurate and contemporaneous treatment records including valid consent to interventions. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
