JOB PROFILE
C4 has committed to ambitious science-based targets, to radically reduce the emissions within the organisation’s control (scope 1 & 2) and influence (scope 3). Using their subject matter expertise, our Sustainability Manager will help deliver an ambitious integrated sustainability strategy focused on reaching net zero; supporting leaders and colleagues in planning and implementing the widespread transformation needed to meet targets across the business.
Whilst successful delivery of our climate strategy will be the shared responsibility of leaders across the business, the Sustainability Manager will be the driving force that identifies areas where impactful changes can be made, inspires and facilitates action, evaluates progress and ensures we are compliant with legislation and reporting needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide subject matter expertise and practical guidance in the development and implementation of plans from each part of the business that will ensure we meet all necessary reporting obligations and deliver on Science Based Targets.
* Ensure that these plans add up to a cohesive, integrated sustainability strategy – properly prioritised with set targets and action plans to be signed off by Exec.
* Work closely with the Sustainability Project Manager (within EPMO) to ensure we have a ‘single source of truth’ and can demonstrate progress against strategic objectives and performance indicators.
* Play a leading role in all climate related working groups as plans are developed and actions are reviewed.
* Ensure relevant internal governance groups & stakeholders including senior leaders are advised on best practice and regularly updated on progress, risks, opportunities, barriers and deadlines.
* Analyse data, monitor performance and provide pragmatic advice to the business - translating what needs to be achieved into relevant action whilst being mindful of other business goals.
* Advise on potential risks associated with emerging legislation once there is clarity and recommend solutions.
* Ensure we have the data required to meet our obligations in a timely manner - developing scopes of work for third-party consultants (eg Accenture) and partners to meet requirements and objectives.
* Produce comprehensive reports, presentations, and proposals - demonstrating performance against KPIs for the MD and Exec team.
* Effectively manage competing deadlines; communicating clearly where priorities and deadlines may be in conflict and showing pragmatism in resolving such conflicts.
* Where agreed, work with industry partners (eg Bafta albert) to share best practice on sustainability, represent Channel 4 externally when required.
* Support engagement and training in sustainability across all areas of the business in conjunction with our L&D team - facilitating knowledge-sharing and promoting relevant skills development – build strong relationships to drive positive change.
* Keep sustainability training current through professional qualifications.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
* Previous experience of working in a sustainability related role and a keen interest in environmentally positive working practices.
* Substantial project management experience.
* Proven experience of leading the delivery of an organisation’s environmental strategy.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, and you will have demonstrable experience of developing relationships at all levels in order to deliver tangible results.
* You’ll be familiar with analysing data and presenting complex information in easily understandable terms with confidence to individuals and larger groups of people, tailoring your style as appropriate.
* You’ll be able to provide examples from previous roles where your resilience and determination to overcome obstacles has enabled you to find solutions to tricky problems.
* Proven experience of managing multiple projects is important alongside experience of having to deal with dependencies outside your control – you’ll be able to talk through a time when you’ve had to make trade-offs between projects.
* Current or recent experience of TV production or in related areas such as Business Affairs or Commissioning is desirable but not essential.
