Construction Craft: Painting and Decorating
This course provides students with the opportunity to further enhance both their practical and theoretical skills gained in previous academic years. As a student on this course, you will gain practical skills in various woodworking projects. This study area will require you to complete both internal and external exams linked to each topic area. This programme of study will help you to develop and build on the skills learned in the previous academic year and support your focus on your chosen craft within painting and decorating. You will have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in applying both water-based and solvent-based finishes, costing and estimation of materials, specialist wallpapering (including wide vinyl and lincrusta), specialist finishing (including marbling and graining), and spray applications as part of this qualification.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of a relevant level 1 qualification or 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on a range of practical skills with a practical end test. Additionally, students will sit a range of modular exams linked to each of the theoretical elements of the programme.
On successful completion of this course, you may progress to an Advanced (Level 3) course or to an Apprenticeship in a trade-related area. When you have completed your studies, other courses that are available include HNC/D in Construction or other University study. Careers that this course may lead to include self-employed painter and decorator, site supervisor, or a career in construction management.
Equipment Needed
You will be required to have your own Personal Protective Equipment while working in the workshop areas.
You will have the opportunity to be entered for the national competition Skillbuild. Success may lead to entry into international competition at Worldskills. You will have the opportunity to visit a wide range of manufacturing and industry sites to see the development and use of state-of-the-art equipment and materials.
