We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Corporate Services is made up of specialist teams, namely Legal, Information Security, Safety & Insurance, and Company Secretary & Share Management. While they’re distinct areas, we all deal with risk. So that covers how we identify risk to the business, people, stakeholders and shareholders, how we assess and evaluate the impact of risks, and how we mitigate them or even accept them. What makes us different is that we have real exposure to other specialisms; we don’t operate in a silo and can move laterally into other opportunities. We also have an amazing leadership team — which is 50% women — and a genuine passion for Sainsbury’s as a brand and as a place to be.
Joining the Competition & Consumer Law Team at Sainsbury's offers a unique opportunity to work in a high-performing legal environment where you will play a crucial role in providing strategic advice on competition and consumer protection matters across all areas of the Sainsbury's Group. As a valued member of the team, you will have the chance to engage with senior stakeholders, drive compliance initiatives, and contribute to complex litigation projects, all while fostering a collaborative and supportive culture within our Legal Department. With access to top legal resources and the opportunity for personal and professional development, you will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to achieving business objectives and making a meaningful impact in the retail industry.
What you'll do
As a Competition & Consumer Lawyer, you will play a pivotal role in providing pragmatic, commercial, and timely legal advice to support the Group's objectives across all areas of competition and consumer protection law. Your responsibilities will include proactively identifying and managing legal risks, advising on compliance matters, overseeing complex competition litigation projects, managing merger control work, engaging in government consultations, and fostering relationships with key regulators. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with internal stakeholders, external legal firms, and industry bodies to ensure legal compliance and strategic advantage for the business. Your role will require effective communication, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to ongoing personal development in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Who you are
As a Competition & Consumer Lawyer, you are a qualified legal professional, possessing in-depth knowledge of UK competition legislation, case law, and regulatory practices, as well as consumer protection law and developments. With a proactive and collaborative approach, you excel in managing legal risks, while also engaging in horizon scanning for future trends to protect the business interests, making you a valuable addition to our high-performing Competition & Consumer Team.

We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits.
