Main duties of the job
The units encompass inpatient, day care and assessment services for our communities. We also have dedicated Children’s Out-Patient departments on both sites. This ensures a rich variety of experiences and development for our staff.
Our Children’s inpatient services provide compassionate care for Children and Young People from 0 to 16 years of age across two busy sites, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital. The units provide care for a mixture of specialties and for a wide range of conditions including High Dependency Care.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* Registered with the NMC as a Children’s Nurse or neonatal nurse
Experience
* Relevant pre-registration experience of working with babies and children
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of establishing effective communication
Skills, Ability and Knowledge
* Demonstrable appropriate skills in nursing for babies and children
* Basic life support skills
* Willingness to advance competencies
* Basic IT skills
* NMC Regulations
* Awareness of current child health and neonatal issues
* Child protection awareness
* Up to date knowledge of legislation pertaining to children and young people
* Awareness of clinical governance agenda
* Awareness importance of preceptorship and supervision
