A Graduate Apprentice will assist in the design and delivery of routine maintenance and roads structural maintenance operations. They will be responsible for taking their assigned schemes from inception to completion, while assisting the Engineer and Assistant Planned Maintenance Manager.\n\nDuring your time working as a Graduate Apprentice with us, you will: \n\n-\tAssist in the design, preparation and supervision of Routine and Roads Structural Maintenance works under the threshold value of £1,000,000. \n-\tEnsure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality procedures that form part of the integrated management systems.\n-\tPlanning, programming and delivering projects on time and within budget.\n-\tUndertaking and preparing designs in accordance with the DMRB & SHW.\n-\tPreparing and delivering operations in compliance with the CDM Regulation 2015\n-\tPreparation and management of scheme and site files.\n- Management and supervision of supply chain contractors.\n-\tManagement of health and safety requirements for specified schemes.\n-\tPreparation of statements of intent and construction bids.\n-\tPreparation of detailed design drawings\n-\tUnderstand traffic management requirements, construction methods, materials and works programming.\n-\tLiaison with stakeholders. \n-\tSupervision of site operations\n-\tInspection & measurement of completed works\n-\tComply with all BEAR Scotland policies and procedures\n\nPlease note there are 4 Civil Engineering positions available based at either our Bonnyrigg or Burghmuir offices. As a Graduate Apprentice you will study for your degree alongside your job, spending approximately 80% of your time in work and 20% in university. This unique combination offers an integrated experience, where practical skills and knowledge gained during the university days can be embedded in your working practices. Skills learned directly in the workplace are aligned with and can be applied to coursework and assessment. This allows you to attain an honours degree in 4 years, the same time as traditional full-time students. \n\nYou will study on a Graduate Apprenticeship degree programme towards a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University. \n\nYou will learn the fundamentals of Civil Engineering and the specifics of structural analysis, construction surveying and relevant computer applications. You will then progress on to more advanced areas of Structural Design, Geotechnics, Fluid Mechanics and Transportation Engineering. \n\nAs you progress through the course, more of your job role will be used to gain credit towards your final award. This is captured in the Professional Practice modules which allow us to personalise your learning to ensure it meets your needs, those of your employing organisation and the university.\n To meet our Standard Entry Requirements you must have EITHER: \n\n-\tA minimum of four SQA Highers at Grade BBBC (including Maths) plus Nat 5 English at B\n-\tA Foundation Apprenticeship in a related discipline plus suitable academic qualifications\n-\tA Modern Apprenticeship or college qualification in in a related discipline \n-\tSufficient recognition of prior learning (RPL) through industry-related experience, qualifications, and informal learning. RPL applications are considered on an \n individual basis\n\nYou must be able to provide proof of any qualifications stated on your CV to meet university entry requirements. \n\nAdvanced entry into Year 2 or 3 is possible for students with suitable qualifications. If applying for advanced entry, you will need to provide sufficient evidence of qualifications and experience through our process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
