A highly competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the speciality of Ophthalmology ensuring the provision of excellent, evidence-based care for patients/clients. Liaise with clinical, non-clinical and facilities staff to maintain a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for patients/clients. Act as an advocate for the patient/client ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services. Set, develop and monitor clinical and non-clinical performance standards, taking action as required.
Ensure that all staff are competent in the administration of medicines in accordance with NMC guidelines and UHS Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines. Ensure all staff are aware of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment in the ward/department. Develop and review policies and standards for the safe use of equipment and any new equipment introduced to the department. Ensure all staff are aware of child protection issues and the process for reporting it. Ensure all staff are aware of the issues of vulnerable adults, how to detect and report it.
Ensure staff adhere to the Infection Control and hand washing Policy to help minimise hospital acquired infections i.e. MRSA.
