Together we can make great things happen.
We are looking for an inspirational Head of MFL in Spanish and French to lead our dedicated department. You will lead, manage and develop the department, maximising student achievement and progress through a creative, relevant and challenging curriculum. You will lead a small but dedicated team of MFL specialist teachers across both French and Spanish. As Head of Department, you will lead and coach the team to develop their expertise further, including mentoring our MFL ECT.
MFL Department
All Maltings students learn either French or Spanish at Key Stage 3 (KS3) and then have the option for further study, with both French and Spanish being offered for GCSE. The MFL department has its own dedicated area in the school, and you will have your own classroom, where you will have full autonomy and be encouraged to create rich learning environments. This is a great time to be joining us here at Maltings, where our MFL team is well respected and highly regarded. There is good support for teaching and learning, all underpinned by 'The Maltings Way', our clear and well applied behaviour for learning strategy.
As Head of Languages, you will have access to many career progression and development opportunities. These include our in-house CPD and LIFT Schools Subject Networks. We also utilise See It Name It Do It strategies, and all staff have StepLab accounts to personalise their own development. You will have a dedicated SLT Link Coach, and you will meet together weekly to discuss strategic issues for the department as well as your own needs and development.
Extra Curricular and Trips
At Maltings, all staff are welcome to offer any clubs within or extra to their taught subject. Currently, the GCSE languages breakfast clubs are well-attended, and students are actively seeking more opportunities to practise their language skills. We are currently exploring adding more enrichment opportunities for our students, with trips planned to the Loire Valley for 2025 and plans to offer a trip to Spain in 2026 and keen to set up day trips to France for KS3 students.
