We are looking for a dynamic practitioner who is both creative and passionate about creative subjects, especially Food Technology. This role is available to start April or as soon as possible thereafter (including September for student teachers). This is a full time position although part-time will also be considered.
Norham High’s Creative & Technological Studies Faculty delivers an exceptional curriculum that secures fantastic outcomes for all. We have a large and diverse faculty structure that delivers a range of creative subjects. At KS3 we deliver D&T covering Graphics, RM and Textiles taught on a carousel. Food Technology is taught throughout the whole year at KS3 focusing on practical cooking skills to ensure students develop a thorough understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of different foods. At its heart, this subject focuses on nurturing students' practical cookery skills to give them a strong understanding of the subject. A small group of Year 9’s study the vocational NCFE Food and Cookery course alongside KS4. We also offer WJEC Hospitality and Catering to KS4 but are always open to new ideas and developments as a school that continues to evolve.
Role Overview:
Primarily, you will be an exceptional established or new and aspiring Food Teacher, you will have the opportunity to teach students practical skills in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing Tech Food lessons in accordance with the national curriculum, ensuring that all students develop essential cooking techniques, food hygiene practices, and an appreciation for healthy eating.
In the classroom and beyond, the successful candidate will set high expectations for themselves, staff, and pupils, and motivate and inspire our pupils to fulfil their potential. Excellent subject knowledge and an ability to form supportive professional relationships with both colleagues and pupils are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
•Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Food lessons covering a variety of topics, including cooking methods, recipe development, food preparation, and nutrition, inspiring students to develop their culinary skills and creativity.
•Practical Cooking: Lead practical cooking sessions in the school kitchen, guiding students in preparing and cooking a range of dishes while promoting safe food handling practices and kitchen hygiene.
•Nutritional Education: Educate students about the importance of nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits, empowering them to make informed choices about their food intake and dietary habits.
•Food Technology: Introduce students to food technology concepts and processes, such as food preservation and food product development, fostering their understanding of the food industry and technological innovations.
•Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student practical skills and knowledge through practical demonstrations, food tasting sessions, and written assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their learning and development.
•Behaviour Management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment in the kitchen, implementing effective behaviour management strategies that promote teamwork, respect, and responsibility.
•Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Creative & Technological Studies Faculty and across the school to share best practices, resources, and ideas for enhancing teaching and learning.

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Food Technology, Catering, or related field.
* Preferably a second subject that can be delivered with passion while supporting pupil outcomes.
* Strong practical skills and knowledge in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen management.
* Previous experience teaching Food Tech / Catering at the secondary level, preferably within a UK school setting.
* Enthusiasm for teaching practical skills and promoting healthy eating habits among students.
* Commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment in the kitchen.

Curriculum:
