Band 4 Residential Support Worker for a large public sector organisation based through the Southern Trust Location: Bluebell Children's Home Pay Per Hour: £13.57 Working Hours: Monday - Sunday 3 x 12 hour shifts JOB SUMMARY/MAIN PURPOSE: The post holder will be part of the Residential team providing residential short breaks and intensive support (Bluebell House)) for children with an intellectual disability. The post holder will support the implementation of multidisciplinary and therapeutic interventions for children and young people with intellectual disability and/or health problems or complex behavioural difficulties. The residential service will be highly developmental in nature and modelled on examples of best practice. The majority of the work will be unit-based but assessments/social inclusion opportunities / interventions may also be provided in the community e.g. outreach, youth groups, clubs, summer schemes, family homes etc. MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES Be familiar with and adhere to Trust policies and procedures in carrying out duties. Have shared responsibility for the day-to-day care and supervision of young persons within the facility, which may include assisting the primary and/or key worker with responsibility for one or more young people. Ensure that appropriate records are maintained, particularly those detailing observations and/or assessment of each young person, in accordance with statutory requirements agreed and policy and procedures. Keep in contact with parents/carers, educational facilities and as appropriate, other professional staff, regarding the needs of the young people. Participate in staff meetings, consultations, group discussions and formal supervision as required. Develop appropriate relationships & be a good role model to the children/young people. Establish contact with the local community, which would facilitate the involvement of the young people in outside activities. Accompany young people when necessary to contact, places of worship, holidays, outings and on other occasions. Contribute to the daily life of the home through engaging with the young people in activities such as housework, maintenance of clothing, cooking and promoting personal care. Assist with the supervision and purchase of clothing for young people, the care of furnishings and household equipment and undertake household and domestic duties which are appropriate to the care of young people. Participate in and contribute to training programmes when appropriate. Be aware of and implement the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Order (NI) 1979 as it pertains to this post and comply with the Trust's Safety Policy. Undertake duties in connection with the proper receipt, recording and safe custody of public and trust fund monies for the facility. Any other duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Trust. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Be a minimum age of 21 when applying for the post (in accordance with Standard 17:9 of the DHSSPS Minimum Standards for Children's Homes, 2015) Have obtained or be in the process of obtaining NVQ/ QCF / RQF Level 3 Caring for Children and Young People or equivalent Health and Social Care related qualification. AND have a minimum of 1 year's experience of working with children/young people/ young adults with an Intellectual Disability in a caring capacity, in a community, acute or residential setting. OR 4 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including English or equivalent AND have a minimum of 3 years' experience of working with children/young people/young adults with an Intellectual Disability in a caring capacity, in a community, acute or residential setting Be Registered with NISCC on the Social Care part of the register at the time of appointment or be eligible for immediate registration within a reasonable timescale prior to taking up post. Ability to work flexible hours including weekend work Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post. .DESIRABLE CRITERIA NVQ/ QCF / RQF Level 3 Caring for Children and Young People.
