Job Summary:
The Mixing Plant Operative is responsible for overseeing and operating machinery and equipment used in the mixing of raw materials, specifically polyvinyl chloride (PVC), to produce high-quality products. This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe mixing of materials, monitoring production processes, and maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities for a Mixing Plant Operative:
Operation of Mixing Equipment:
Operate machinery used for mixing PVC and other raw materials, ensuring proper blending according to specifications.
Set up and adjust equipment for the mixing process, ensuring correct parameters (temperature, mixing time, and material quantities).
Pack materials into bags as required.
Quality Control:
Monitor the quality of PVC mixtures throughout production, performing regular checks to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
Conduct regular tests (e.g., consistency, colour, viscosity) to ensure the finished mixture meets the required specifications.
Material Handling:
Load and unload raw materials such as PVC resin, stabilisers, and other additives into the mixing equipment.
Ensure proper storage of materials to prevent contamination or degradation.
Process Monitoring:
Monitor the mixing process to identify any potential issues or deviations from standard procedures.
Take corrective actions as needed to ensure smooth production.
Record production data, including material quantities used, batch numbers, and mixing times.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety guidelines and operating procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Wear protective gear (gloves, goggles, ear protection) and ensure that safety systems are functioning properly.
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including proper handling and disposal of waste materials.
Maintenance and Housekeeping:
Perform routine maintenance on mixing machines, cleaning equipment, and production areas.
Report any faults or issues with machinery to the maintenance team.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the mixing plant area.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other production staff, such as machine operators, supervisors, and quality control technicians.
Assist in training new employees on the operation of the mixing plant.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of production, materials used, and any issues encountered.
Report any production issues or delays to the supervisor.Required Competencies:
Previous experience in a similar role in a manufacturing or production environment (preferably in plastics or PVC).
Understanding of mixing processes and equipment.
Ability to operate machinery and troubleshoot basic issues.
Familiarity with various raw materials used in PVC production (e.g., resins, stabilisers, plasticises).
Strong focus on quality control and attention to specifications.
Knowledge of safety practices in industrial environments.
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting materials and standing for long periods.
Good maths skills for measuring materials accurately.Required Competencies:

Shifts: 4-day shifts (Monday to Thursday, 7 AM - 7 PM), followed by 4-night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM).
