Position: Extrusion Blow Moulding Technician

Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Shifts: 4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights) | Day Shift: 7 AM - 7 PM | Night Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM
Salary: £39,000+ (Salary negotiable depending on experience)
Objective: Nexus Packaging produce HDPE containers for the chemical industry - from UN approved to standard retail containers. To assist the engineers and lead during their absence in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all equipment and machinery during assigned shifts at Nexus Packaging Ltd's new extrusion blow moulding operation. The Technician will be responsible for assisting the engineer in troubleshooting, quick response to breakdowns, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in production.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Equipment and Machinery Management:
§ Monitor the performance of all machinery and equipment on the production floor, ensuring they operate at optimal efficiency. Control and adjust temperatures, air, mechanical components & electrical components where trained/certified.
§ Assist in regular checks and routine maintenance to prevent breakdowns and prolong the lifespan of equipment. For instance, frequent spanner checks to ensure nothing is loose or damaged, greasing and cleaning of all components, checking gearbox oil levels, air cylinder evaluation.
2. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
§ Quickly diagnose and resolve any technical/processing issues or malfunctions that occur during the shift. For instance, mis-blowing containers, blender suction issues, sever contamination, poor neck finishes etc.
§ Carry out repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment to minimize downtime.
3. Technical Support and Guidance:
§ Assist in training operators on the correct usage and basic maintenance of equipment.
4. Quality Assurance:
§ Ensure that production meets the required quality standards. Container weights need to be in spec, bottle neck dimensions and handles need to be in spec etc.
§ Identify any technical factors that may affect product quality and solve them.
5. Safety Compliance:
§ Ensure that all activities and operations comply with health and safety regulations.
§ Ensure that every staff member wears the appropriate PPE when working, for example, cut proof gloves & sleeves when clearing the parison with guards on blade.
§ Promote a culture of safety, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed by the team.
6. Communication and Coordination:
§ Communicate effectively with the staff and other shift engineers to ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
7. Continuous Improvement:
§ Identify opportunities for improving equipment performance and reliability.
§ Suggest and implement improvements to maintenance procedures and production processes.
8. Emergency Response:
§ Be prepared to respond to emergencies and unexpected breakdowns, implementing quick and effective solutions to minimize impact on production.
§ Participate in emergency planning and preparedness activities.
9. Resource Management:
§ Ensure that all necessary tools, parts, and supplies are available and in good condition for maintenance and repair tasks.
§ Manage the allocation and usage of technical resources efficiently during the shift.
