Waterton Academy Trust are delighted to be looking to appoint a highly motivated and confident higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) to work with our pupils in our specialist provisions for children with ASD, communication and interaction needs and/or SEMH needs.
Waterton Academy Trust is a primary only multi academy trust of 14 primary schools serving the Wakefield and Barnsley districts. The Trust’s driving ambition is to secure the very best outcomes for all its children and prepare them for future success.
To join us on this exciting journey, we are seeking practitioners with expertise in supporting pupils with a range of additional and complex needs, in particular those with ASD, social communication/interaction/ SEMH difficulties. We are seeking applicants with experience of working with a range of communication interaction strategies and communication systems such as Pictorial Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and Makaton signing systems and experience of working with bespoke/personalised curriculums to meet individual need. Applicants will need a strong understanding of the relational approach and practices to promote this.

* Has relevant experience of working with pupils with complex needs
* Can facilitate PPA by covering class
* Is positive and confident in using their knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching and learning, and SEND
* Is ready to utilise the benefits of a curriculum that is innovative and flexible in terms of delivery and content
* Is able to assist the class teacher and other professionals as appropriate in the development and implementation of suitable educational activities
* Is able to plan, prepare and deliver lessons in conjunction with the class teacher
* Is able to monitor and assess children’s progress and provide clear feedback to the class teacher
* Will be engaged with the provision’s ethos, thinking creatively and reflectively within an open and honest team, whilst keeping the needs of the pupils firmly at the centre
* Is able to share best practice, be flexible and compassionate
* Will develop positive relationships with pupils and able to use a variety of strategies to meet individual needs
* Will be enthusiastic, confident and able to use their initiative
* Will play a full part in the life of the assessment unit and be committed to working in partnership with staff and parents.
