We are recruiting on behalf of our client, who are a leading Construction company, specialising in the supply and installation of large construction projects globally.
Duties:
1. To provide professional technical support and assurance to the growing business covering a varied portfolio of products.
2. This support will require the production of project specific calculations, to inform and guide our design process.
3. The role will work with both the Projects and Product Management Teams to enhance our current product range, to be innovative with potential new opportunities, and to provide design support on our ongoing portfolio of live projects.
4. To be commercially aware, ensuring that all projects are value engineered to provide the best possible outcome across both product integrity and overall cost.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Preparing structural calculations, reports, assessments, specifications and drawings. These may include beam deflections, crowd loadings, support steel intervals, necessary beam grades or fixing capacities, overturning moments or wind/snow loadings and assessing their impacts upon our proposed designs.
2. Production of Temporary Works Designs and checks.
3. Assist with or lead a variety of projects to completion - including new product development and componentry testing.
4. Provide input into risk assessments as appropriate.
5. Task management and delivery to the highest standards, demonstrating all round technical competence and financial awareness.
6. Prepare client and project proposals.
7. Requirements to attend occasional site meetings.
8. Responsible for ensuring the relevant structural consideration of existing and new products.
9. Support work winning teams to ensure the suitability of our proposed products for a potential client's site environments.
10. To contribute to and to work towards the standardisation of our products.
Skills:
1. A solution-oriented approach to tasks.
2. Strong attention to all health & safety aspects of projects.
3. Team player working within a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of structural engineering projects.
4. High attention to detail.
5. Practical product/industry knowledge to understand customer's constraints.
6. Proactive in addressing problem issues, presenting and pushing solutions.
7. An existing ability to provide wind loading calculations and to predict their effect upon proposed structures would be highly desirable.
8. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with colleagues and clients.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Degree or equivalent in Engineering/Structural Engineering.
2. Ideally a master's degree in Structural Engineering.
3. Charted Status would be highly advantageous.
Experience:
1. Experience in the construction industry.
2. Proven experience of structural steel and loading calculations.
3. Proven ability to apply BS Standards and Eurocodes to design applications.
4. Fully IT literate with experience of structural design software packages.
