About the role
Join the University of Sunderland in a senior leadership position within Estates & Facilities, supporting the Director in delivering strategic organisational objectives. This role provides leadership and direction across key areas, including Estates Development, Maintenance (reactive and planned), Space and Campus Management, and Business Support, ensuring services meet the University’s needs.
Key responsibilities include:
* Lead the development of the University’s estate in line with the Estate Plan and Capital Investment Programme.
* Serve as the Estates and Facilities Health and Safety lead.
* Support the Director in managing and promoting the Estates and Facilities Service internally and externally.
* Oversee the capital and revenue budgets for Estates and Facilities, ensuring projects are delivered within budget, timeline, and quality standards.
* Provide expert advice on technical construction and estate management practices.
* Manage contracts and frameworks with Procurement and Legal Teams, ensuring compliance and performance.
* Support the development and implementation of the University’s estate strategy.

About you
You will have a proven record of senior-level management experience within a large, complex organisation, particularly in areas relevant to Estates and Facilities. Your substantial experience in people and financial resource management will be key, as well as your ability to develop and deliver strategic objectives and outcomes.
You should have a track record of strategy development, project management, and successful delivery of key projects in Estates and Facilities-related areas.
Experience in leading and managing change effectively, along with your commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services, will be essential. You will also need to demonstrate a deep understanding of health and safety compliance within a complex estates and facilities environment.
