About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced and motivated Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager with major project experience in civil engineering/construction to join our Power Transmission and Distribution Team in Ipswich.
Working on the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement (BTNO) Project you will be responsible for the provision of timely health and safety advice, guidance, training, management reporting and practical management solutions to Project Staff, employees and contractors.
Project information: Balfour Beatty will be responsible for the replacement of the existing high voltage electricity network between Bramford Substation in Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex, with a new 400 kilovolt overhead line spanning 18 kilometers. In addition, the company will also deliver 11 kilometres of underground cable through the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Stour Valley.
What you'll be doing
* Develop, maintain and promote the implementation of the Project H&S Management Systems including the (contract Health & Safety Plan, Emergency Preparedness Plan)
* Provide advice, support and assistance to all project personnel to enable them to manage their health, safety and Wellbeing responsibilities.
* Develop and deliver suitable H&S training programmes for all project personnel (including routine project inductions).
* Assist Project Managers and Supervisors delivering project related risk assessments using appropriate risk assessment methods. Undertake risk assessment and risk assessment reviews to ensure Balfour Beatty and Contractor assessments have identified suitable and practical control
measures which cover foreseeable risk(s)
* Undertake Health and Safety compliance evaluations, inspections and audits at prescribed intervals – record outputs and liaise with site management to ensure actions are completed.
* Promote a positive safety culture through proactive monitoring and engagement.
* Investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty standards to identify and share lessons learned. Ensure actions and recommendations are tracked.
* Fulfil H&S, Customer and Balfour Beatty accident reporting requirements
* To monitor, collate and interpret health and safety performance data including close out of inspection and accident investigation reports, and provide management reports on a routine basis
* As directed, promote continuous improvement of safety performance by implementing special projects and corporate health and safety improvement plans.
* Participate in the regular review and update of the Project Health & Safety Management System.
Who we're looking for
Qualifications required:
* Corporate Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards)
* NVQ Level 4 / equivalent / Diploma
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate
* Relevant CSCS Card
Knowledge/Experience required:
* Health and safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
* Construction industry experience, Major projects, Heavy civils, Power Transmission Distribution
* Producing monthly statistical reports
Competencies/Personal Attributes required:
* Motivated, determined, qualified and experienced Safety Professional with civil engineering/Construction experience.
* Ability to inspire, influence, direct and manage personnel to achieve higher standards whilst supporting and developing a strong team spirit and culture.
