If you answered yes to the above, then we would like you to apply for a role with Network Rail as a Senior Train Running Controller.
As a Senior Train Running Controller, you will lead the team of train running controllers on shift to maintain and manage the train service on our network. Assisting them to achieve On Time, T3, T15 and T30 performance measures for passenger operators and the Freight Delivery Measure for freight operators. You will lead the VSTP team on shift and assist them in providing track access to our Train and Freight Operators.
You will arrange and chair conference calls during disruptive events ensuring that our operators are fully appraised of our train service management strategy and recovery plans and provide them with information to effectively communicate their plans to the passengers. The Senior Train Running Controller is responsible for suggesting improvements to our contingency plans, service recovery measures and providing performance feedback to our teams on shift. You will be the escalation point on shift for any matters relating to service recovery and mitigation.

About the role (External)
Key Accountabilities
1. Accountable for the real-time delivery of the train service through the leadership of the train running controller teams.
2. Lead the team of duty train running controllers to manage the train service during disruptive events, implementing contingency and service recovery plans where required.
3. Arrange and chair train service strategy and service recovery conferences with customers and stakeholders.
4. Work during both normal train running and disruptive events, to deliver the optimum service that meets the differing needs of the rail industry, passengers and freight customers.
5. Manage through the leadership of the train running controllers the safe and efficient running of trains over the routes infrastructure and of cross route trains in liaison with other train running controllers and route control managers.
6. Where nominated, lead the on-shift management for Network Rail of specific train operators services, service groups or trains on an end-to-end basis in full liaison with all other relevant Network Rail controls and train operators.
7. Lead the train running controllers in their duties to make proactive train regulating decisions using control systems and interpreting incoming information to identify potential disruption and initiate early action to minimise train delays, communicating with signallers, interfacing with Network Rail controls and train operators as necessary.
8. Work closely with Senior Incident Controller, Senior Network Delivery Manager, Route Control Manager to manage train service delivery during times of perturbation, being the key liaison with representatives and managers of train operators whose services run on our routes and other control centres routes.
9. Develop and specify during times of disruption, and in conjunction with the train running controllers, emergency timetables, contingency and service recovery plans, initiating and leading discussion with interfacing Network Rail controls and train operator staff regarding resourcing of the plan.
10. Lead discussions with interfacing Network Rail and train operator controls in respect of traffic management during engineering work.
11. Maintain a daily log of all train running information and events, using the available systems in accordance with the relevant company standards and instructions.
12. Lead the VSTP team and duty train running controllers to undertake planning of VSTP train movements to a time horizon of 48 hours.
13. Maintain train running controller competency and cover this role as required, to the needs of the business at the location at which you are based.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
1. Rules awareness.
2. Knowledge of passenger and freight operating procedures.
3. Operational experience within a control environment as a Controller.
4. Be confident and proficient in chairing and conducting multi-participant conferences with customers and stakeholders.
5. Understanding of the Working Timetable, together with detailed working knowledge of Route timetables.
6. Knowledge of Train Operating Companies organisational structure, operational strategy, deployment and routes.
7. Good geographical knowledge of applicable routes.
8. Demonstrable skills in the use of Microsoft Office package and Control specific software e.g. CCF, CENTRIX, TMIS, TRUST, TRUST DA, TOPS, TYRELL and other communications/pager systems.
9. Working knowledge of the GSM-R system and its correct use.
10. Good team working skills and ability to make objective decisions.
11. Able to manage conflict, influence others and work under pressure.
12. Good understanding of commercial business objectives within Network Rail and Train Operating Companies.
13. Good knowledge and understanding of train service contingency plans, service recovery principles and train regulation policies.
Desirable
1. Geographical knowledge of adjoining routes.
2. Working knowledge of the Railway Operating Code.
