Salary: Research Grade 7: salary in range £38,674 - £43,171 p.a. This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,500 per year.
We are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Bowden’s group to work in the area of integrated X-ray and EM-based studies of viral glycoprotein-antibody interactions. You will join a very lively and motivated international and interdisciplinary group of scientists at the Division of Structural Biology, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage your own academic research activities.
2. Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols.
3. Test hypotheses and analyze scientific data from a variety of sources.
4. Review and refine working hypotheses as appropriate.
5. Contribute ideas for new research projects.
6. Present scientific results through journal articles, posters, and oral presentations at national/international conferences.
7. Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
8. Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars.
Minimum Requirements:
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a relevant subject (e.g. Structural Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Virology) and have research experience in production and purification of protein samples for structure/function studies using mammalian and insect cell-based expression systems. You will have research experience in X-ray crystallography and/or cryoEM/cryoET, preferably of glycoproteins and membrane proteins, and in biophysical and cell-based assays. You will also have documented evidence of work at the level expected of first author publication in a leading refereed journal as well as the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project, including assisting the work of junior researchers. Good communication skills, including the ability to present work at international symposia and to non-specialist audiences, are essential for this role.
