Privacy Counsel - Global (1-4 years PQE) – Belfast, Dublin, Warsaw, Johannesburg
We have an exciting career opportunity for a Privacy Counsel to join the Privacy Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Marsh McLennan. You will play a vital role in supporting our global privacy program and strengthening Business compliance with global privacy regulations across multiple regions, including the UK, Europe, Asia, IMEA, LAC, and the Pacific. This position offers great flexibility and visibility across the Company, providing an excellent opportunity for a driven candidate to develop their skills and grow in their career.
What you can expect:
* As Privacy Counsel – Global, you’ll report to our Senior International Privacy Counsel and work very closely on UK & EU matters with our Chief Privacy Officer and DPO for those regions.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advise on compliance with privacy and cyber laws and regulations, responding to queries from colleagues across the enterprise.
* Work with members of the Privacy COE to streamline Marsh McLennan’s privacy program and operating model to meet Business demand and ensure global consistency.
* Provide support and guidance to MMC Data Protection Officers around the globe via the Global DPO Network.

We will count on you to:
* Support with privacy escalations relating to global client and vendor contracts.
* Provide support with the management of responses to data subject rights requests, as well as privacy-related complaints, audits, and investigations.
* Assist in updating and training colleagues on privacy-related policies and procedures, including our core Handling Information Appropriately policy.
* Conduct privacy risk assessments and DPIAs, supporting the business to assess key privacy risks in new initiatives.
* Support the team to keep up-to-date with legal and regulatory developments, guidance and case law, and help produce the UK & EU monthly DPO newsletter.
What do you need to have?
* Qualified Lawyer 1- 4 years PQE.
* Experience gained in a corporate an in-house environment or law firm, with a focus on privacy and data protection.
* Knowledge of global data protection legislation.
* Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, with a focus on privacy and security terms.
* Knowledge of international data transfer requirements, including the use of standard contractual clauses and binding corporate rules.
* Experience in managing the end-to-end process of data subject rights requests, particularly access requests.
* Experience conducting legal research and producing summaries and guidance notes for different audiences.
* Ability to work within a multicultural, matrix environment, managing relationships with different business stakeholders to problem-solve effectively across multiple geographies.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
* Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
* Good planning and organisation skills.

* Experience interacting with regulators on data protection and privacy issues.
* Experience interacting and managing multiple business stakeholders in a global context.
* Understanding of information technology systems and their security requirements.
* Familiarity with data lakes and governance, digital platforms, cookie and other third-party online tracking, and privacy-enhancing technologies.
* Understanding of AI and developments in the generative AI space, as well as the related regulatory environment.
* Any CIPP certification.
