This role would suit candidates with an engineering background, be it electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or all, looking to further their career in the Rail industry. All Rail specific training will be provided for the successful candidate. A job-use van and fuel card will also be provided by Colas Rail UK. Applicants will need a keen eye for detail, the ability to work alone or as part of a team, and a can-do attitude when faced with solving problems. Lodging away from home will be required. Purpose of the Role
To Fit, Operate and Maintain on-track machines (OTM) in a safe manner, in accordance with the Competency Based Standards for Fitters, Operators and Maintainers, and in accordance with the Colas Rail Railway Safety Case. Full training for all aspects of the role will be given to the successful candidate. Weekend, Christmas & Night work will all be included in the shift pattern. Some working away from home will be required (company will facilitate). Job depending on passing relevant Railway Standard Medicals; a full Job Description will be given at interview.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Responsible for booking on and off duty at the time and place directed by duty manager or senior production manager.
2. Wear personal protective clothing as supplied.
3. Maintain clear and open communications, verbal and written, with Rugby Rail Plant Control Room - Help Desk.
4. Work to a safe and competent standard.
5. Responsible for absorbing and retaining knowledge trained on.
6. Carry out emergency procedures as and when required.
OTM Operating
1. Full training will be given on the operation of the OTMs.
2. Responsible to, and if possible, repair service faults and failures.
3. Report all service faults and failures immediately both in writing and verbally to the Rugby Rail Plant Control Desk - Help Desk.
4. Operate on-track machines in accordance with Railway Standards.
5. Carry out all aspects of maintenance and safety checks and assist specialist Fitter staff when fixing a machine breakdown or problem.
Fitting
1. Assist Specialist Fitter staff carry out all aspects of maintenance.
2. Responsible for the immediate verbal reporting of machine faults and failures to Rugby Rail Plant Control Desk.
3. To complete all maintaining duties that are under the Maintenance Fitter Assessment Scheme.
Experience, Knowledge, Technical Skills and Qualifications
Essential
1. Good knowledge of computer and phone skills, Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook.
2. Flexible, honest, and punctual.
3. Certified in Vehicle, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
4. Good communication skills.
5. In possession of a Clean Full and Valid road vehicle driving license to be able to drive company vehicles.
6. Willing to continue learning and be trained.
7. Maintain a positive attitude and sense of professional pride.
8. Able to perform weekend and night shift duties.
9. Mechanically minded.
10. Team worker.
