Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Location: Great Barr Contract Type: Full-Time Start Date: September start Job Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a supportive and dynamic team at a school in Great Barr. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in working with students with special educational needs (SEN), including those exhibiting challenging behaviour. This role also requires experience in providing personal care and supporting students in their daily activities to help them achieve their fullest potential. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one and group support to students with special educational needs, including those with challenging behaviour. Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the specific needs of each student. Support students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, as required. Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other staff to ensure effective communication and tailored support for students. Assist in classroom activities, ensuring they are accessible to students with a variety of needs. Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times. Essential Skills & Qualifications: Previous experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs (SEN), including challenging behaviour. Experience in personal care support for students with varying degrees of physical and emotional needs. Knowledge and understanding of SEN strategies, including de-escalation techniques. A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting students. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. A commitment to promoting inclusive education and the well-being of all students. Desirable: Experience in supporting students with specific conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, physical disabilities). Additional training in special educational needs or behaviour management. DBS clearance (or willingness to undertake one).
