We have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Technician to become a vital part of the team at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. In this role you will participate in the rotational shift and on call roster while having the ability to be adaptable and flexible to carry out work including activities which are multi skilled, complex and/or non-routine. You will Undertake maintenance, servicing, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the hospital as directed by Estates management team, ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures. Main Accountabilities: To carryout multi-skilled maintenance tasks within capability, experience and training To work in accordance with the requirements of the Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTM’s)as required To actively participate in the operation and control of building fabric/ engineering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schemes Use handheld electronic technology to provide feedback of information required by the Computer Aided Facilities Management system (CAFM) to assist the estates department in carrying out its duties At all times to carry communication devices (Phones. Handheld devices) to facilitate immediate response to emergencies as part of the Emergency Response Team To be prepared to work in high risk, and challenging areas ensuring all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment are fully implemented Ensure that works are completed or communicated, even if it means working longer than the designated working hours to do so Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management Provide cover for maintenance technicians shift cover and on-call as required Undertake essential repair works, planned preventative maintenance, calibration and fault diagnostics at the request of Senior Technician to building and engineering assets To liaise with Site Engineer and Senior Technicians regarding plant or equipment failures and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary Undertake fault-finding on engineering services and equipment Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections, validation and calibration tests in accordance with Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTM‘s) and other applicable legislation and work instructions Complete all report sheets, work orders and test certificates as necessary Use handheld electronic technology to provide feedback of information required by the computer aided facilities management system CAFM to assist the estates department in carrying out its duties Immediately notifies the Senior Technician and Site Engineers of any deviation from the regulations Follow detailed engineering drawings, schedules, programmes of work and specifications Uses all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works Undertakes inspection and commissioning tests for the installation and issues the appropriate completion certificates clearly signed off and dated To work and ensure those carrying out tasks operate to the Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTM’s) as an appointed Competent Person for Serco where stipulated Participate in an on-call, out of hours, rota – usually 1 week in 6 Be conversant with and understand the complete working of the mechanical, electrical and electronic systems particularly as they relate to this unit i.e. lifts, refrigeration, boiler plant, air handling units, fire alarm systems, computer systems, control theory, practical and application, building fabric (fire doors, safety glazing, window restrictors, locks) Be conversant with and understand the complete working of the mechanical, electrical and electronic systems particularly as they relate to this hospital Be able to undertake Authorised Person, Skilled Person, Competent Person roles and responsibilities for disciplines as required The post holder will be responsible for all appropriate health, safety and welfare matters affecting staff in or attached to their area of work responsibility. This will include safe systems of work, training and safety inspections. What you will need for the role: Completed City and Guilds /NVQ or equivalent in Engineering or Electrical apprenticeship BTEC / ONC in engineering/ building services and/ or five years’ experience in engineering/ building craftsperson role preferably in a Healthcare environment Competent person in either/or but not limited to: Piped medical gases, boiler and pressure systems, Low voltage electrical systems to requirements of SHTM’s Capable of appointment to a competent person relevant role Accuracy and attention to detail IT skills Ability to work to tight deadlines in a demanding environment To attend training establishments as necessary Provide technical advice and support to Trainees, Apprentices, Maintenance Assistants and subcontracted service providers Competent Person in one or more disciplines Health and Safety Customer care, quality and customer service Understand Fire Safety awareness in the workplace and its requirements Additional features of the role: Occasional manual handling Computer and keyboard skills obtained through experience and practice Extended working days to meet needs of the service Occasional risk of dealing with dissatisfied or distressed staff, patients, and visitors Frequent walking Maintain verbal and written communication systems within the department, external suppliers and delivery personnel Motivate and develop staff engaged in the service Regular changes to daily routine Able to use own initiative in problem solving on day-to-day issues Understanding of customer care and experience of managing the client relationship What We Offer Salary: Salary package with shift allowances up to £41,937 available with annual reviews.
